Term 1 - Me and My Community

Who is in my community?

This term, we will be getting to know all about ourselves, our families and the wonderful community around us. We will explore what makes each of us unique, talking about our likes, dislikes, interests, feelings and the things that make us special. We will also learn about our families and the different people who are important in our lives, celebrating the similarities and differences that make our class such a special place to be.

As we settle into Reception, we will learn about our school, our local environment and the people who help us in our community. We will discover the important jobs people do, from teachers and doctors to firefighters, police officers, postal workers and other familiar community helpers. Through stories, role play, discussions and real-life experiences, we will develop an understanding of how these people help and care for us.

In R.E., we will begin learning our school prayers and exploring what it means to belong to God’s family, the Church. We will learn that we enter God’s family, the Church, through Baptism, and begin to explore how Baptism welcomes us into the Church.

Throughout the term, we will build friendships, learn how to work together and develop confidence in talking and listening to others. We will be encouraged to share our own experiences, ask questions and learn from the experiences of our friends.
